Special Project

Lab-à-Startup

This unique program is helping universities and new clean-tech companies to emerge, generating significant sustainable wealth and positioning Quebec as a world leader in climate innovation.

Project description

Transforming innovation into lasting impact

The transition from laboratory to market is a huge challenge. On the one hand, we have scientists who want to make a concrete impact, but lack the tools to transform their discovery into a marketable technological solution. On the other, we have industries, companies and investors looking for breakthrough technologies, but struggling to find innovations that meet their needs. The pool of high-potential climate and environmental innovation companies is still insufficient. This reality hampers our ability to attract investors, respond competitively to the needs of local and international markets, and build an ecosystem that is economically viable in the long term.

It was with the aim of stimulating the creation of clean technology companies that we launched the Lab-à-Startup. It's a unique program that enables the emergence of new cleantech companies capable of meeting environmental challenges, generating significant sustainable wealth and positioning Quebec as a world leader in climate innovation.

The Lab-à-Startup is an initiative of the Cleantech Consortium, supported by 2 Degrés, Cycle Momentum and IVÉO.

The Cleantech Consortium is the union of three Quebec leaders - 2 Degrés, Cycle Momentum and IVÉO - to transform environmental challenges into economic opportunities. By supporting entrepreneurs from ideation to commercialization, we accelerate the emergence of innovative technologies and their adoption on local and international markets. With a collaborative approach and a network of experts, we strengthen the cleantech ecosystem to position Quebec as a global player in the ecological transition, while generating a sustainable impact on the environment and the economy.

Program objectives

Resolve the lack of cleantech startup creation in Quebec by bridging the gap between research and industry, so that startups can emerge with concrete solutions to the biggest environmental challenges.

Program steps

A structured path to accelerate innovation

The program supports entrepreneurs at every key stage in the development of their innovation. From initial project structuring to field validation, right through to the creation of solid, viable business models, each phase aims to transform promising technologies into concrete solutions, ready to meet tomorrow's market needs and environmental challenges.

Program structuring: During the first two years, we launch pilot projects in partnership with universities, incubators, companies and cities to test and transform projects into concrete solutions.
Market validation: Through innovation programs, start-ups benefit from support enabling them to validate their market, test their prototyping, demonstrate, experiment and develop their technologies in a real-life environment.
Developing viable business models: By meeting with key market players, developing pilot projects, seeking funding from investors and sharing concrete solutions, we accelerate the time-to-market for impact technologies.
